I may every now and then review a book I read awhile back, but not alot.
Life has been nice, nothing bad, which is good. I went to the library yesterday, and have graduated from the young adult books, to the adult ones.
The thing about adult books, though, is that they are long...which means it takes awhile to read. The books look interesting, and the good LORD willing, I shall see how long it takes me to read them.
I also got a movie based on a Charles Dickens book. My nerves are already getting to me. They sometimes get so bad that I think I have forgotten my music. Not good, since I have to play by memory.
This week I have been reading "An Old-Fashioned Girl" by Louisa May Alcott. It is such a lovely little story, and I enjoy reading it. I have only read bits and pieces of "Little Women" and one of the short stories in "A Quiet Little Woman", so this is actually one of the first books by Louisa May Alcott that I am actually reading through all of the way. It is also pretty cool that today in english I was supposed to learn about her. Your probally thinking "supposed?" *grins*, I actually read it before today, ahead of time, so I already learned some about her. There is also a little note in the beginning of the copy of "An Old-Fahioned Girl" that tells a little about her. I read the one in the book just today, though.
Well, the good LORD willing, I need to go practice some more.

GOD bless,
TheReadingMaid

Kingdom Series Contest

I read about this contest for Chuck Black's Kingdom series. The good LORD willing, perhaps tomorrow.
Writer's block, the very bad thing, is in my way again. That's okay, though, I have some books that need reading. Back in December, I joined a reading challenge called The Winter Words Reading challenge. I was supposed to choose a word from the list, and the one I chose was Snowflake. I had to choose one book that had a title that started with one of the letters in the word, or an author's name that started with one of the letters in snowflake. So far, I have only finished the the w! I am almost done with the f, but that still means that I have less then three weeks to read seven whole books. I must have gotten into another reader's block. At least these next few book are shorter, at least in length, then the one the good LORD willing I plan to finish today. Oliver Twist and An Old Fashioned Girl may take a bit because one: I don't have Oliver Twist and two: It's an older book, and it might be harder to read. An Old Fashioned Girl is also older and may be harder to read. The good LORD willing, I plan to start reading it again today. It was not enough for a gold cup, but excellent is good.
Afterwards, we went to a colonial renactment, where I found that the author, Blonnie Wycthe, of a book I have read, The Anchor: P. Moore Proprieter, was story telling. So cool. Anyways, afterwards, she was standing up there and my mom just had to go and talk to her because she knew I, due to an extreme case of shyness, would not. Mother just had to tell her I write, and she talked with me and my mom a bit. What did I learn from a published author?
She just said that getting a book published is very hard to get*sigh*. She gave some tips, though.
1. Do not write to be published
2. Make sure before you even send a story to be published that it is the very best you can make it.
3.Have other writers look at your work, not someone, and about in the words she said to my mom and me : "Not someone who says 'Oh this is so good!'"
Basically, get people who will point out your mistakes, someone who is not afraid to make you cry and cry that one word in your book is awful, and you do not think so.
4. Read magazines, or books on writing. Go to conferences, and I think she said workshops.
5. When choosing a publisher, look for someone who publishes about the same things your book is about. I mean, think about it, why would you send a book on colonial times to a publisher who is known for publishing fantasy when there is one that is more likely to publish the book because they publish books on historical fiction?

I am far from the publishing point, but some of you may be very close and these tips may be of some help to you, and the good LORD willing, in the future for me.

GOD bless,
TheReadingMaid

Happy Tuesday!

The good LORD willing, today I am going to start the first book in The Dragon Heart series. It has a strange title, but please read it.

Four Boyfriends

Once upon a time there was a girl who had four boyfriends.

She loved the fourth boyfriend the most and adorned him with rich robes and treated him to the finest of delicacies. She gave him nothing but the best.

She also loved the third boyfriend very much and was always showing him off to neighboring kingdoms. However, she feared that one day he would leave her for another.

She also loved her second boyfriend. He was her confidant and was always kind, considerate and patient with her. Whenever this girl faced a problem, she could confide in him, and he would help her get through the difficult times.

The girl's first boyfriend was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining her wealth and kingdom. However, she did not love the first boyfriend Although he loved her deeply, she hardly took notice of him!

One day, the girl fell ill and she knew her time was short. She thought of her luxurious life and wondered, 'I now have four boyfriends with me, but when I die, will I be a alone.'

Thus, she asked the fourth boyfriend, 'I loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?
'No way!', replied the fourth boyfriend, and he walked away without another word.

His answer cut like a sharp knife right into her heart.

The sad girl then asked the third boyfriend, 'I loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, w ill you follow me and keep me company?' 'No!', replied the third boyfriend. 'Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to marry someone else!' Her heart sank and turned cold

She then asked the second boyfriend, 'I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?'

'I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!', replied the second boyfriend. 'At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave.'
His answer struck her like a bolt of lightning, and the girl was devastated.

Then a voice called out: 'I'll go with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go.' The girl looked up, and there was her first boyfriend. He was very skinny as he suffered from malnutrition and neglect.

Greatly grieved, the girl said, 'I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!'

In truth, you have four boyfriends in your lives:

Your fourth boyfriend is your body. No matter how much time and effort you lavish in making it look good, it will leave you when you die.

Your third boyfriend is your possessions, status and wealth. When you die, it will all go to others.

Your second boyfriend is your family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for you, the furthest they can stay by you is up to the grave.

And your first boyfriend is your spirit. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world.

However, your spirit is the only thing that will follow you where ever you go. Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of you that will follow you to the throne of God and continue with you throughout Eternity.

Thought for the day: Remember, when the world pushes you to your knees, you're in the perfect position to pray.

GOD bless,
TheReadingMaid

Happy Friday!

The good LORD willing, I have a piano competition next week. Ahhhhhh.... yes, I go by TheReadingMaid, but I write too. Used to be mostly historical fiction, but when I joined an online writing club I began to dabble with fantasy. My first try was a story not really planned about this girl who enters this forest full of cursed people who turn into these creatures at night. I finally quit that one, and went to one that the good LORD willing, I hope mabe to someday finish.
It's called The Dragon Heart series.
